K-12 CLASSROOM SUITE
net-zero prototype
the project:
A flexible suite of 32’ x 32’ classroom modules and 12’ x 32’ ancillary modules
Classroom, toilet, storage, teacher workroom, conference, and classroom expansion modules
Cross-laminated timber technology was the basis for this modular classroom suite of parts. A repetitive and flexible structural design supported a rich and diverse set of component parts loosely based on the Educational Ecosystem (www.futureofschools.com). Every classroom was designed to have immediate access to outdoor learning spaces, under a roof designed to support photovoltaic panels sufficient to achieve net-zero status. The project was designed to be state pre-approved, avoiding the sometimes lengthy lead times that delay conventional projects.
